In the AmarKarigor app you can browse fridge technicians in Dhaka and Gazipur – who is verified, who understands no-frost and inverter compressors, how they are rated, and what their previous jobs typically cost. Send the brand and symptom in chat, agree the price, then book a visit.

Common problems
Fridge runs but does not cool
The compressor hums but nothing gets cold – usually a gas leak, a dirty condenser, a stalled fan motor or, in no-frost models, a failed defrost system. Freezer cold but fresh-food section warm often points to the defrost heater or the air damper.
Compressor will not start or clicks and stops
A failed start relay or overload protector, a weak capacitor, or low voltage. Repeated click-click attempts can also mean the compressor has seized – switch it off and call a technician.
Gas gone or leaking
Rust pinholes on joints, the evaporator or the condenser let the charge escape. The technician repairs the leak, vacuums the system and refills the correct gas (R134a, R600a) – a refill alone is not a repair.
Too much ice in the freezer, water at the bottom
A leaking door gasket lets humid air in, which freezes. In no-frost fridges a failed defrost timer, heater or sensor causes the same. A blocked drain hole leaves water inside or on the floor.
Loud noise or vibration
Worn bearings in the condenser or evaporator fan, tired compressor mounts, or a fridge that is not level. Occasional ticking is normal; grinding or knocking is not.
PCB, thermostat or display faults
Voltage swings kill inverter fridge boards very often in Dhaka. A faulty thermostat either never switches the fridge off, or never switches it on.
What the technician checks
An experienced fridge technician usually works through these, in order:
- Whether the compressor runs, how much current it draws, and the state of the relay, overload and capacitor
- Gas pressure with gauges and whether the pipework leaks
- Condenser coil (back or underneath) and its fan – dirt and rotation
- The ice pattern on the evaporator – even frost (low gas) versus thick ice (defrost fault)
- Defrost heater, timer/sensor and the drain line
- Door gasket – the paper test: if a sheet slides out easily when the door is shut, the seal leaks
- Thermostat/PCB settings and the supply voltage
How it works on AmarKarigor
Find – fridge technicians
Choose the "Refrigerator" category in the app to see nearby technicians – Verified badge, ratings, completed jobs and typical prices together.
Talk – brand and symptoms
Tell them the brand, frost or no-frost, capacity, age – and what is happening (noise, ice, weak cooling). The technician will state the visit fee and a likely cost.
Fix – at home or in the workshop
Relays, thermostats and gas work are done at home. A compressor swap or an evaporator leak often goes to the workshop; agree who transports the fridge.
Review – rate the job
Rate quality, price, punctuality and behaviour. Reviews build the technician's profile, and the price you record makes the typical-price figure more accurate.
Safety tips before you try anything yourself
- Unplug before any work; if the fridge was tilted while moving, wait a few hours before switching it on.
- Refrigerant (especially R600a) is flammable – no open flame, stove or cigarette in the room while the technician brazes.
- Do not touch the compressor terminals; a capacitor can shock you even when unplugged.
- Leave at least 10 cm between the back of the fridge and the wall so the condenser can shed heat.
- Never chip ice off with a knife – a punctured evaporator means replacing the whole gas circuit.
What affects the price
Visit fee and transport
The home-visit fee is on the profile. If the fridge has to go to a workshop, van or transport costs are separate – agree in chat who pays.
Gas work
Finding the leak, brazing, vacuuming and refilling come as one package. The gas type (R134a/R600a) and fridge size change the cost; replacing an evaporator costs more.
Small parts versus compressor
Relays, overloads, thermostats and fan motors are relatively cheap. The compressor is the expensive item – new or reconditioned, which brand – ask first and get a receipt and warranty.
Type of fridge
No-frost, side-by-side and inverter-compressor models need more parts and time than a basic frost fridge, so a higher price is normal.
We do not quote fixed prices. In the app, each technician profile shows a "typical price" range computed from the jobs that technician has actually completed (once there are at least 5). Agree the final price with the technician in chat or on a call before the work starts.
