Common problems
AC runs but does not cool
The most common complaint. Causes include a dirty filter and evaporator coil, low refrigerant, an outdoor fan that has stopped, or a compressor that will not start. Topping up gas is not always the answer – if there is a leak it will simply drop again.
Water dripping from the indoor unit
A blocked drain line or a pipe without enough slope sends condensate down the wall. Sometimes ice forms on the coil and melts – that is actually a sign of a refrigerant or airflow problem.
Gas leak or low refrigerant
Tiny leaks at copper joints, flare nuts or the coil let the charge escape slowly. Symptoms: weak cooling, frost on the pipe, an outdoor unit that runs hot. A good technician finds the leak first, then refills.
Compressor will not start or keeps tripping
A weak capacitor, unstable voltage or a tripped overload protector all cause this. A failed compressor itself is the expensive case – which is why the capacitor and supply voltage are checked first.
Strange noise or smell
A rattling fan blade or a worn motor bearing, a musty smell from a dirty filter – or a burning smell, in which case switch the unit off immediately and have the wiring checked.
Remote or PCB not responding
Load-shedding and voltage swings damage inverter AC boards and sensors very often in Dhaka. If the display shows an error code (E1, F5 and so on), send it to the technician in chat – they can prepare before the visit.

An experienced AC technician usually works through these, in order:
- Filter, evaporator and condenser coil – how dirty, whether a wash service is due
- Refrigerant pressure with gauges – charge level and gas type (R22, R32, R410A)
- Copper lines and joints for leaks – soapy water or an electronic detector
- Capacitor, relay and compressor running current – to isolate starting faults
- Indoor and outdoor fan motors and blower – speed and noise
- Drain line and pipe slope – the cause of dripping water
- Supply voltage, stabiliser and wiring – especially for inverter units
- Remote, thermostat and sensor readings, PCB error codes

In chat, tell them the brand, tonnage, age and symptom; add a photo or the error code if you can. The technician will state the visit fee and a likely cost.
Fix – at your home
AC work is almost always done on site. After inspecting, the technician gives a final price – the job starts when you agree. Parts are confirmed with you before they are fitted.
Review – rate the job
Rate quality, price, punctuality and behaviour when it is done. Your review helps the next customer, and makes the typical-price figure on the profile more accurate.
Safety tips before you try anything yourself
- Switch off the AC at the breaker or isolator before any work – the remote alone is not enough.
- Never try to refill gas yourself. Refrigerant is under pressure and causes frostbite on skin and eyes.
- Washing the filter monthly is fine to do yourself, but keep water away from the coil and the PCB.
- If the outdoor unit hangs on a balcony grille or ledge, ask whether the technician has a safety harness.
- A burning smell, sparks or a warm cable: stop using the unit and get an electrician first.
- In areas with voltage swings use a stabiliser; inverter units need surge protection too.
What affects the price
Visit or inspection fee
Technicians charge a fee to come and diagnose – it is stated on the profile. Many fold it into the final price if you proceed with the repair; a diagnosis-only visit is charged separately. Confirm in chat beforehand.
Servicing versus repair
A wash service (filter, coils, drain) and a parts replacement are completely different jobs. Tonnage and how the indoor/outdoor units are mounted also change the labour involved.
Type and amount of gas
R22, R32 and R410A cost different amounts, and a full charge is not the same as a top-up. If a leak has to be brazed, that is added.
Parts: from capacitor to compressor
Capacitors and remotes are cheap, PCBs and fan motors mid-range, a compressor is the expensive end. Brand and original versus compatible parts make a big difference – ask for the receipt and warranty.
